Doing More in ’24

We are so grateful for the generous support we received for our year-end campaign. Thank you to everyone who donated. Your contributions help us continue our current housing programs and give us the capacity to expand our services in 2024.

In October, we were thrilled to attend the County Executive’s announcement of the Housing Opportunities Meant for Everyone (HOME) package, which includes a $1 million grant for Bridges to rehouse Howard County Public School students and their families experiencing homelessness. Since then, we’ve been hiring program staff and working with the school system and the Department of Housing and Community Development on the partnership and rollout of the program. We’re excited to begin taking applications on Monday, Feb. 5.

In our school system, 431 students are currently experiencing homelessness. Our new program, Family Home Start, will

provide security deposit guarantees and first month’s rent, along with short-term case management, for many of these families so they can move from homelessness to stable permanent housing.

We’re grateful for this opportunity to house more families. With the shortage of affordable housing in our county, it will be a challenge, yet our commitment will never waver. We’ll share updates soon. For more information visit:

Wishing you all the best in 2024!

Client Story

A Mother's Journey of Resilience and Advocacy

For Sheila and her young son, the misfortunes piled up like a snowball rolling downhill, leading to two bouts of homelessness and eventually, an emotional breakdown. Today, with help from Bridges and other agencies, they are stably housed in an affordable Bridges apartment. Sheila is paying down her debts and saving money, and her son is on the path to college this year. Read her story here.

Volunteer Highlight

Thank You, Kyle!

Kyle Hill has been volunteering with Bridges since October, 2021. He and his Job Coach, Toni, come to our office every Monday for an hour and help us with all sorts of things. They help us decorate for holidays, inventory our Welcome Home Baskets, sort and address envelopes, shred documents, and so much more! It is such a joy to have Kyle come in every week! In his spare time, Kyle operates a business called Leaders of the Pack. They help package things for different projects. Kyle loves to keep busy and volunteers for MyPreK-Box, Maryland Department for Disabilities, the Howard County Public School System, Keller Williams, and The Hussman Institute for Autism. Thanks for everything Kyle (and Toni)! We are so lucky to have you!

Whether you participated in our annual campaign, contributed on Giving Tuesday, or supported us in any other way, we extend our deepest thanks. Your commitment to our cause is truly inspiring, and it

reinforces our belief in the power of community.

As we enter the new year, let’s carry this spirit of hope forward. Together, we can continue to make a positive impact and create a community where homelessness is a thing of the past.
