2024 Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week
Bridges is partnering with local nonprofits and community members to recognize Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week, held each year during the week before Thanksgiving.
Children’s Art Project
Children throughout Howard County completed art with the theme “Everyone in Howard County Deserves a Home.” Art will be on display at the Miller Branch Library throughout the month of November.

Food, Toiletries, and Cleaning Supplies Drive
Donate non-perishable food and toiletries to the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Shelter, and cleaning supplies to Bridges to Housing Stability’s Welcome Home Baskets, provided to clients who are rehoused to help them settle into their new home.

Spent – Group Simulation: Monday, Nov. 18, 5-6PM, Avalon Room, Miller Branch Library
Bridges is facilitating a group session of SPENT, a financial insecurity simulation developed by Urban Ministries of Durham. Attendees will work together and discover the many challenges someone experiencing financial insecurity faces to make it through just one month. This event is free to attend and appropriate for teenagers and older. Coloring books will be available for children of parents who would like to attend.

Howard County Housing Affordability Coalition Public Forum: Monday, Nov. 18, 7-8:30PM, Patapsco Room, Miller Branch Library
Members of the Housing Affordability Coalition’s steering committee will host a public forum with a short presentation about the County’s housing crisis and the Coalition’s current advocacy priorities, followed by discussion and Q&A.

Grassroots Crisis Intervention is hosting a reading of “Home” by Tonya Lippert followed by an art activity. This event is appropriate for anyone ages 4+.

This lyrical story is timely and thoughtful, depicting the life of two children thrust into homelessness and uncertain housing situations as they move out of their house, to a motel, to a shelter, and finally another more permanent home. Throughout, the duo is challenged by uncomfortable new places and inquiries from strangers, but ultimately, never lose their optimism or determination. They have each other, no matter at home, nowhere, anywhere, or somewhere—always.
