Background: Bridges to Housing Stability is working jointly with Volunteer Maryland to recruit an AmeriCorps Member to serve as Volunteer Coordinator for our team oriented and client focused organization. Our mission is to provide a path to self-sufficiency to prevent and end homelessness through affordable housing solutions and advocacy. We believe that affordable housing and supportive services are essential to ending homelessness and housing instability.

Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities: This is a full-time 11-month position beginning on September 16, 2020, as a member of AmeriCorps. The Volunteer Coordinator will serve an integral part in increasing the capacity of our limited resources to provide affordable housing options, support for those facing eviction, rehousing services, financial education, as well as job acquisition and retention assistance to the growing number of those in our community who need these services.

Main duties include:

  • Recruit, screen, train, recognize and help supervise volunteers
  • Create a volunteer orientation program and conduct orientations with new volunteers
  • Develop an onboarding program for volunteers
  • Design and maintain a volunteer tracking system/database to report schedules, skills, training, projects, etc.
  • Coordinate, track and prioritize projects
  • Assist in the creation of volunteer position descriptions
  • Promote volunteer activities and opportunities through both traditional sources and social media accounts
  • Build partnerships within the Howard County community

Training and Benefits: Volunteer Maryland provides a two-week pre-service training as well as monthly training days during the year (20 days total), which covers program development, marketing, and evaluation; volunteer management; and leadership development. Other benefits include valuable networking opportunities, being part of a dedicated team of AmeriCorps members, making a real difference in the community, and enhanced experience for future employment opportunities.

Full-time VM AmeriCorps Members serving as Volunteer Coordinators receive a living allowance of approximately $14,028, a post-service educational benefit of $6,095, and health insurance if they are not already covered, and may also qualify for a child care allowance.

Qualifications: VM AmeriCorps Members serving as Volunteer Coordinators must possess and demonstrate excellence in the following areas: verbal and written communication, computer skills, problem solving and conflict resolution, leadership, public speaking, and commitment to national and community service. In addition, proof of U.S. citizenship, age (at least 17 years old), and high school graduation are required in order to enroll in AmeriCorps.
